HE IS…The One Who Truly Satisfies

Some days, it feels like there is a gaping hole in my heart. The space between my old life and my new life feels as expansive as the ocean. I’m left longing for so much–to be loved, cherished, and cared for. To have a co-parent beside me in the trenches. To feel financially secure in a two-income home. To have a partner as I age.

When I survey the horizon, I so often come up empty. And if I’m being honest, it all starts to eat away at my contentment with my life. It seems like everyone else has everything good, and I have a burden of loss strapped to my back.

I feel dissatisfied with my life often. It’s hard to say that out loud, but maybe it’s time to expose what’s often under the surface? Maybe you feel that way, too? Divorce causes such a deep wound as it rips apart a life you once held dear. The emptiness left behind is hard to carry.

So where do we turn when the echoes of our former lives resound like a drum, rattling amongst the empty spaces in our hearts?

The only place left to turn is to Christ. He is the only One who can truly satisfy the longings in our hearts. He alone can fill the void we carry within us. I think we all know that, don’t we? But sometimes it’s hard to believe it’s really true. We want to find a new husband who will love us better. We want financial security. We want someone to do the grocery shopping, cook us dinner, and send us for a bath and an early bedtime (am I right??)

But what we truly need is Jesus. The rest will never, really, truly, change and quiet our hearts. There is no perfect husband. Financial security is an endless chase. Food and sleep only help for a few hours. Jesus alone can fill the deepest caverns of longing in our hearts. Only he can meet the desires we carry. The hole left behind can only be filled by the one who crafted and created our hearts.

So today, let’s be reminded and encouraged once again to turn to Christ. He alone can satisfy our hearts. Not only is he able, he is also endlessly willing. He is enough friends. Let’s choose to believe it today.

He satisfies the longing soul…
